## What does publishing mean?

Publishing allows you to make your latest course updates live for learners.

Your course now has two versions:

* The **draft version**, where you make updates and changes.
* The **published version**, which is live for your learners.

Even if your course is already live and published, you can continue making changes in the builder without these being reflected immediately to your learners. These edits are saved as **draft changes** and won’t affect the version your learners see until you **publish** again.

 

In other words, the **draft version** is where you prepare updates, and the **published version** is what your audience can see. 

 

## Why we introduced publishing

Publishing gives you greater control over when your course updates go live.

It ensures your learners always see the correct, finalized version of your content — and introduces the foundation for future **version management** tools.

 

## How to publish your course


1. Open your course.
2. Select **Publish** at the top of the screen.
3. Review your changes to ensure you’re happy with what will go live.
4. Select **Publish** again to confirm.

Your course will update for learners once publishing is complete.

If your course includes **AI Narrations**, you will also choose to **Generate narrations and publish** from this same screen.


## Reverting to the last published version

Coassemble now includes basic **version control** for your courses.

If you ever need to undo recent changes or go back to your last live version:


1. Open your course.
2. Select **Publish**.
3. Choose **Revert** to return to your last published version.

This is especially useful if you’ve made experimental edits or want to roll back after testing updates.

 

Please note that Coassemble does **not** keep a record of every past version of your course; only the **most recent published version** can be restored. Once you publish new changes, that becomes the new version you can revert to in the future.

 

## Viewing time since last published

At the top of your course, you’ll see a **“Time since last published”** indicator. This shows how long it’s been since the course was last pushed live.

 

This is especially helpful when you’re collaborating with other creators — it gives everyone visibility into when updates were last published and helps avoid confusion about whether the latest changes have gone live yet.

 

## Viewing changes made since last published

When you select **Publish** at the top of your course, you will also be able to see the number of changes since the course was last published. 

 

This gives you a quick snapshot of how much has been updated in your draft version before you push those changes live. It’s especially useful when you’re collaborating with other course creators, helping you keep track of ongoing edits. 

 

By showing exactly how many updates have been made, you can feel confident you’re publishing the right content at the right time. 

 

## Common questions

### Do I need to publish every time I make a small change?

Any edits made in the builder are saved in your draft version and won’t appear to learners until you publish. You can make as many updates as you like before publishing, then push them live all at once.

 

### Will my learners lose progress if I publish updates?

No — publishing updates your course content but does not affect learner progress or completion data. If you add in additional screen or remove a screen from your course, this will be indicated on the progression funnel in Insights but will not affect your audience's completion. 

 

**Can I undo a publish?**

No, once you have published, you cannot undo. You can revert to your **last published version** in the builder from the draft. Coassemble doesn’t store every previous version. Once you publish new changes, that becomes your new “last published” version.

 

**How do I know if I’m looking at the draft or published version?**

If you’re editing in the **builder**, you’re working in the draft version. The **Time since last published** and **Changes** counter help you confirm when the live version was last updated.
