## What are template links?

A **Template link** is a unique URL that allows someone to copy a course into their own Coassemble workspace. Once copied, the course becomes a standalone version that can be customized without affecting the original course.

Template links are especially useful for:

* Sharing template libraries across multiple workspaces
* Providing customers with starter content after signup
* Offering ready-made courses directly from your website
* Ensuring a consistent starting point across distributed teams while still allowing local customization


Recipients will need to log in (or register) to copy a course, but the original course creator won’t be able to see who made a copy.

Template links are ideal when:

* **You want to offer course templates** to new customers/partners/teams
* **You maintain a library of reusable content** that other workspaces can remix and adapt independently.

**Example:**

A global training team builds a “Master GDPR Compliance” course. Using a Template link, they send it to regional workspaces, where each region adapts terminology, legislation references, or branding—without impacting the source course.

## How to get a template link for a course

Follow these steps to generate a Template link:


1. **Navigate to the Courses dashboard**

   Head to your workspace dashboard where all your courses are listed.
2. **Locate the course you want to share**

   Find the course you’d like to make available as a template.
3. **Open the course context menu**

   Click the three dots **(…)** on the bottom of the course card.
4. **Select “Get template link”**

   This opens a confirmation modal explaining how Template links work.
5. **Review the information shown**

   The modal notes that:
   * Anyone with the link can copy the course into their workspace
   * They will need to sign in
   * You won’t be able to see who copies it.
6. **Click ‘Copy link’**

   The link is copied to your clipboard, and you’ll see a success toast confirming:

   **“Template link copied to the clipboard.”**
7. **Share the link**

   Send it via email, chat, documentation, or any distribution channel you prefer.

## What recipients see when accessing a template link

How Template links behave depends on whether the recipient is logged in, logged out, or brand new to Coassemble. Below are the three scenarios.


### **1. A Logged-in User (Single or Multiple Workspaces)**

When a logged-in user opens a Template link, the experience differs slightly depending on how many workspaces they belong to. Explore both these scenarios below.


### **A. Logged-in User with a Single Workspace**

If the user is logged in and only has access to **one** workspace:


1. Opening the Template link displays a **course preview page**.

   They will see:
   * The course title
   * The name of the originating workspace
   * A **“Copy course to my workspace”** button
2. Clicking the button immediately copies the course into their workspace.
3. They are redirected to their dashboard.
4. A success toast appears:

   **“Course successfully added to your workspace.”**


### **B. Logged-in User with Multiple Workspaces**

If the user is logged in and belongs to **more than one** workspace:


1. Opening the Template link displays the same **course preview page**, showing:
   * Course title
   * Originating workspace
   * “Copy course to my workspace” button
2. After clicking the button, the user is shown a **workspace selection screen** so they can choose where to import the course.
3. After selecting a workspace and confirming, they are redirected to their dashboard.
4. A success toast appears:

   **“Course successfully added to your workspace.”**


### 2. A Logged-out user (Already Has a Workspace)

If the user opens a template link while logged out:


1. They are shown a message:

   **“You must be signed in or register a new account to copy this course.”**
2. After signing in, they land on the **course preview page**, seeing:
   * Course title
   * Origin workspace
   * “Copy course to my workspace” button
3. After clicking to copy, they are returned to their dashboard, where they see:

   **“Course successfully added to your workspace.”**


### 3. Someone without a Coassemble account

If the person has no Coassemble account:


1. Opening the Template link displays the message:

   **“You must be signed in or register a new account to copy this course.”**
2. Clicking **Register** sends them to Coassemble’s standard onboarding/entry experience.
3. Once they complete registration, they can return to the Template link flow to copy the course into their new workspace.

## Key points about Template links

### Independence of Copies

Courses copied via Template links are completely separate from the source.

Changes made to copied versions do *not* affect your original course.


### Access control

Only users with a Coassemble workspace can copy a course.

They must sign in or create an account first.


### **Privacy**

You cannot see who has used your Template link or how many times it has been used. You also cannot see the new version of the course unless you are a member of the destination workspace that the course has been created in from the template link.


### **Security**

Template links use randomized, secure URLs that cannot be guessed or derived from other course URLs.


### **Share anywhere**

You can share a template link anywhere you can include a URL, including:

* Emails
* Help documentation
* Your website
* Partner portals
