Learn how to export courses as SCORM objects, ready for use in your LMS.

All Coassemble accounts can export courses via SCORM in both SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 formats to share on an LMS.

# How to export a SCORM object

## Step 1: Open the “Share” modal

Simply click the “Share” button, located either on the course card within your dashboard or at the top of your screen while inside the course. This will reveal the course share modal.

## Step 2: Navigate to the SCORM tab

By default, the share modal displays the “Share a link” tab. To access SCORM download options for your course, simply select the **Export SCORM** tab.

## Step 3: Specify SCORM format

Specify the desired format for exporting the SCORM file. Choose the format from the dropdown menu, offering options for **SCORM 1.2** or **SCORM 2004**.

You are then presented with two options for SCORM:

* Dynamic SCORM
* Standalone SCORM

### Dynamic SCORM

Dynamic SCORM keeps your course up-to-date by maintaining a live connection to Coassemble. Any edits you make in Coassemble are automatically reflected for your learners—no need to re-export or re-upload. This option is included on all plans.

### Standalone SCORM

Standalone SCORM creates a **self-contained ZIP** that can run independently of Coassemble—ideal for platforms that don’t allow external connections or for offline/high-security environments.

Because it’s a **static snapshot in time**, any changes you make in Coassemble will **not** update automatically. You’ll need to **re-export** and **re-upload** the file to your LMS, HRIS, or other system whenever you want to update the course content.

#### Important limitations (what you can and can’t do)

**Editing a downloaded Standalone SCORM ZIP is not a supported workflow.**

* Once exported, the standalone package is **not connected** to Coassemble.
* Changes made by modifying the downloaded `.zip` file are **not supported**.
* If you need to make changes (even small ones), the supported workflow is:

  **Edit in Coassemble → Export SCORM again → Upload the new ZIP to your LMS**

If your use case depends on editing SCORM content “outside” of Coassemble, raise this early—Standalone SCORM is meant to be a reliable, portable deliverable rather than an editable project file.

#### Updating a Standalone SCORM package (recommended workflow)


1. Open the course in **Coassemble**.
2. Make the required content edits (text, images, layout within available options).
3. Export the course again as **Standalone SCORM**.
4. Replace the SCORM package in your LMS with the newly exported `.zip`.

#### Image sizing in Standalone exports

In Standalone SCORM, images render based on Coassemble’s **responsive layout/grid system** designed for cross-device compatibility.

* Image sizes/frames are **aligned to a grid** (to keep layouts consistent across devices).
* You generally **can’t manually change image frame sizing inside the exported ZIP** in a supported way.
* If you need different image/layout behavior, make those changes **in Coassemble**, then **re-export**.

Coassemble is continually improving layout and image controls in the builder, but changes will still need to be made **inside Coassemble** (not by editing the exported SCORM `.zip`).

## Step 4: Decide where your SCORM can be shared

By default, SCORM packages created in Coassemble are compatible with any LMS. To safeguard your intellectual property, dynamic SCORMs allow you to control where and how they can be used. For each course, you can configure one of the following options:

* **Anywhere** – the SCORM package can run on any LMS without restrictions.
* **Only sites I choose (allowlist)** – specify approved domain(s) that are authorized to host the SCORM package.
* **Nowhere (disabled)** – deactivate the SCORM package so it cannot be launched.

Choosing **Only sites I choose (allowlist)** enhances security by allowing exclusive hosting of your SCORM objects on domains listed within the allowlist. If you haven't yet added any domains to your list, click the **Configure** button to access the settings modal. Here, you can add one or multiple domains to your allowlist. After adding domains, click **Save** and return to your course.

Select **Nowhere (SCORM is disabled)** if you want to completely deactivate the SCORM object, rendering it inoperable on any LMS.

## Step 5: Download your SCORM file

Once you've finished configuring your course's SCORM settings click the **Export SCORM file** button on the bottom of the modal. This will download the SCORM package onto your computer, ready for you to upload into your LMS.

# FAQs

## Can I edit the exported Standalone SCORM ZIP directly?

Standalone exports are intended to be **static deliverables**. Editing the exported ZIP directly is **not supported**.

To make changes, update the course in Coassemble and **re-export** a new SCORM package.

## Can a Dynamic SCORM be “converted” into a Standalone SCORM after the fact?

Not without doing a new export.

Dynamic SCORM and Standalone SCORM are different export types. To get a Standalone package, you must export it as **Standalone SCORM**, which requires **Enterprise plan access**.

If you need to test Standalone behavior, contact your Coassemble representative to discuss Enterprise access options (for example, a trial or temporary upgrade where available).

## Can I control image frame sizing inside the SCORM package?

Not directly. Image layout is governed by Coassemble’s responsive layout system. Adjust image/layout settings in Coassemble and then re-export the SCORM package.
