## What is WCAG 2.2?

WCAG — the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines — is an internationally recognised standard developed by the W3C. It provides a shared benchmark for web accessibility, designed to ensure that people with disability can access web content using their preferred assistive technology.

WCAG 2.2 is the **latest version** of the standard. It became a W3C Recommendation on 12 December 2024 and builds on the previous versions (2.0 and 2.1) by adding additional success criteria. In Australia, conforming with WCAG 2.2 is the current recommended approach.

### Conformance levels explained

WCAG success criteria are grouped into three levels:

* **Level A** — Fundamental accessibility requirements
* **Level AA** — Intermediate, widely expected requirements
