How do I generate part of a course with AI?

How to use the agent to generate a block, a screen, several screens or a whole section, and how generating a screen works in the Classic builder.

Ask the agent. It can generate a single block, one screen, several screens at once, or an entire section, and it builds them into the course you already have rather than starting something separate. What you get back depends on what you ask for, so a request like "add three screens covering the refund process" and a request like "add a checklist block to this screen" both work.

Where do I find the agent?

Open the agent panel in the course builder. The Chat tab is where you type, and the Suggestions button at the bottom of it opens a menu of ready-made prompts so you don't have to write one from scratch.

Under Create, the suggestions are:

• Generate a screen
• Generate a knowledge check
• Generate flashcards
• Generate a quiz

Below those sit Edit, Refine, Organise and Navigate, each opening its own set of prompts for changing content you have already built.

Picking a suggestion writes the prompt into the message box rather than running it straight away, so you can add detail before you send it. Choosing Generate a quiz, for example, fills in Generate a quiz section for this course. Use the current course content unless I provide specific questions, and you can edit that to ask for a set number of questions or particular question types first.

What can I ask for?

The suggestions are a starting point, not the limit. Typing your own request gives you the full range:

• A block. Add a single element to a screen, such as an accordion, a checklist, a table or a question.
• A screen. Generate one screen on a topic, and the agent writes the content and arranges the blocks.
• Several screens at once. Ask for a set of screens covering a topic and the agent builds them together.
• A section. Generate a whole section, including a scored quiz section.

How specific you are shapes the result. Naming the topic, the number of screens, the kind of content you want and where it should sit all steer the output, and you can edit everything afterwards.

How do I generate content in a particular spot?

Hover over the gap where you want the new screen to go. A + appears between the two screens either side of it, and a placeholder shows where the screen will sit. Add the screen there, then ask the agent to fill it with the blocks you want.

This is the approach to reach for when position matters. Asking the agent for a screen without saying where it goes leaves the placement to it, whereas adding the screen yourself first puts it exactly where you want it before any content exists.

Can I generate screens from outside Coassemble?

Yes. The Coassemble MCP server lets an AI assistant such as Claude create and manage courses in your workspace, including adding screens, so you can build course content from the assistant you already work in. You connect it once from Settings with a single sign-in.

Does this work on every plan?

The in-builder agent is available on all current plans, but not on the legacy Flow and Hub plans.

How do I generate a screen in the Classic builder?

In the Classic builder, generation is scoped to one screen at a time and starts from the screen type.

1. In the course editor, select + Add screen and choose the screen type you want.
2. Choose Generate screen rather than Start from scratch.
3. Give the AI something to work from: enter a description of the content you want, choose one or more reference screens to guide the structure and style, or do both.
4. Select Generate. The screen is created with related images, ready for you to review and edit.

There are three ways to feed it:

• Description only. The screen is built from your prompt. Best when you know the content but have nothing to point at.
• Reference screens only. One screen is transformed into a different screen type while keeping its core message, and several screens are merged into one new screen.
• Description and reference together. Your description takes priority and the reference screens act as extra context, which keeps the result consistent with your existing content.

Classic can generate these screen types: Text and image, Accordion, Process, Flashcards, and Checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Can I generate more than one screen at a time?

Yes, by asking the agent for them. Say how many you want and what they should cover, and the agent builds them into the course together.

Can I edit what the agent generates?

Yes. Everything it produces is ordinary course content, so you can rewrite it, rearrange the blocks, change a screen's layout or delete it.

Can the agent add a block to a screen I have already built?

Yes. Point it at the screen and say what you want added, and the block is placed on that screen rather than on a new one.
