Embedded content not showing in a course

Why isn't my embedded content showing in a course?

Why a third-party tool, form or website won't display inside a Coassemble course, and what to do instead.

If you've added a third-party tool or website to a course and it isn't displaying, it's almost always the other site refusing to be embedded rather than anything you've done wrong.

This page is about putting outside content into a Coassemble course, using an Embed block in the new builder or an Embed screen in the Classic builder. If you're putting Coassemble into your own product with the Coassemble Embed components, that's a different thing entirely and this page won't help with it.

Why isn't my embedded tool showing?

If your embed isn't displaying properly, it's likely one of the following.

The website blocks embedding

Some websites and tools actively block their content from being displayed on other platforms, using security headers that stop the page loading in an iframe. That's exactly how embedding works, so there's nothing you can change on the Coassemble side to get around it.

The sharing settings on the third-party tool are wrong

Even if a tool supports embedding, it won't work if the content isn't shared widely enough.

A common example is Google Forms. A form can be embedded, but it has to be shared publicly. If it's still restricted, for example to users in your organisation, it won't display in your course even with the right link.

The link isn't an embed link

Many tools give you a normal page URL and a separate embed URL. Check you've copied the embed one.

What can I do instead?

If embedding won't work, you can still:

  • Link out to the tool with a hyperlink in a paragraph block or on a button block.
  • Screenshot the tool or a key part of it and add it as an image.
  • Record a video walkthrough of the tool and add that as a video instead.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the embed option in the new builder?

Add an Embed block to any screen, or start the screen from one of the Embed layouts. Because it's a block, embedded content can sit alongside text and other blocks on the same screen rather than taking a screen of its own.

Can I embed a PDF?

Yes. Use a Document block, which lets a learner read the file on the screen or download a copy.
