# How do I create a course from a document?

Upload a document and AI structures it into a multi-screen course. You set the audience, tone, and length, then review the outline before it builds.

The Transform a document method turns a document you already have into a course. AI summarises and reformats your content to suit Coassemble's screen types, chunking long text into headings and bullets, rather than copying it word for word. It's a strong starting point you refine afterwards.

## Create the course

1. From your dashboard, select **New course**, then **Transform a document**.
2. **Upload your document** by dragging it in or selecting **Add a file**. You can upload more than one document and add a prompt to give context. There's a 50MB file size limit.
3. Set your audience's **familiarity** with the topic: Beginners, Intermediate, or Advanced.
4. Optionally add **audience detail** and choose a **learning outcome** (AI suggests options, or type your own).
5. Confirm the **language** (AI detects your document's language, and you can change it) and choose a **tone**: Informal & Conversational, Academic & Research-Based, or Motivational & Persuasive.
6. Choose the **length** as a screen-count range.
7. If your document has images, choose whether to **include them**.
8. Select **Generate course outline**.

## Review the outline

AI generates an outline, including a quiz screen at the end. Before it builds the full course, you can add or remove screens, rename titles, and drag screens into a new order. When you're happy, select **Create course** and AI builds each screen.

## Edit and publish

Once generated, refine the content, images, and design in the editor, then publish to make it live.
