# What is a course?

A course is interactive training made of screens. Here's what a course is and what you can build into one.

A course is a piece of interactive training that someone works through and completes, made up of screens. Each screen presents one idea at a time, and you can build a course from content you already have or with built-in AI, then deliver it wherever your people are. There's no limit on how many courses you can build.

## What's in a course

Screens are the building blocks of a course, and different screen types let you present content in different ways: text, video, a document screen with a downloadable file, a quiz, and an embed screen for dropping in third-party tools. Within screens you can add images, video, and interactive elements like quizzes, flashcards, hotspots, and accordions. Every screen is mobile responsive and shows a small amount at a time, which keeps learners focused and reduces cognitive load.

## How courses are built

There are four ways to create a course: transform a document, convert a presentation, generate one from a prompt, or start from scratch. Built-in AI can draft the whole course for you, and you refine it in the editor, which autosaves as you work.

## Designing effective courses

Shorter courses tend to land better. Aim for around 20 screens or fewer, keep videos to roughly 6 minutes, and split a big topic into several smaller courses grouped into a collection.

### Is there a limit on how many courses I can build?

No. You can build unlimited courses.

### Are certificates available?

Not at this stage. Coassemble doesn't currently issue certificates.

### Can I download a course as a file?

No. Courses are interactive, cloud-based experiences, so they can't be exported as a static PDF. If you want to give learners reference material to download, add a document screen with the file attached.

### Does my work save automatically?

Yes. Coassemble autosaves as you build, so you won't lose progress.
